Alternative route back from Ty Brith

Once you reach the crossroads where you can see the Trewylan hall sign, go straight across but turn left through a field after a few metres. Go downhill on a path through some gorse bushes to a pedestrian gate at the bottom-trousers would be a good idea here-go through the gate and on to another pedestrian gate directly opposite on the other side of the field. Turn left after this second gate and over a stile and immediately turn right uphill to a set of 2 pedestrian gates. Go through these gates  and keep to the left of the field and then go through a field gate and continue to keep to the left side of the field. You will shortly get to  another pedestrian gate leading onto a lane almost opposite the Hobbitat homes. Turn left along this lane, going downhill, and turn right a few minutes later when you meet a wider lane in Deytheur. Walk slightly uphill and then downhill back to Penrhos old school.

Arddleen Sarnau Penrhos loop with a diversion to Deytheur

Once you get to Penrhos of school go up the hill towards Deytheur and take the first lane on the right. Continue to the end and then turn left down a track, going downhill at first and then uphill and meeting another lane at a house called Cae Llwyn  on your left. Turn left here going downhill and uphill and you will reach the telephone box & noticeboard in Deytheur. Turn left again and go straight down the hill back to Penrhos old school.

A walk or bike ride from Penrhos old school into the Vyrnwy Valley

Park at the old school-go behind the building and park in the tarmac area. On coming out of the gate to the car park turn left, pass the church and fork right uphill. You will pass several houses and bungalows and then the drive to The Mount farm. Continue on until you reach a junction going downhill to your right. *  Take this road and continue downhill, ignoring a no through road to your left and passing “Greenwood” and reaching a triangle of grass at a T-junction. Turn left here passing Little Collfryn and then Tyn y Drain farm on the left. The road turns sharply right and goes downhill just after this . Continue downhill and you will pass the imposing twin-roofed Collfryn mansion on the left with farm buildings and cottages on the right. Continue on a level road That reaches a T-junction at Rhos farm. # Turn left here passing The Hollies and New Buildings and then the driveway to Rhosddu House. Go downhill for a few minutes and the road will fork-take the left fork uphill, downhill then uphill passing a couple of bungalows on your right ** then down and uphill again to Red House straight in front of you. Turn left and go gently uphill passing a new house called “Sunny view” on your right and then a bungalow with outbuildings also on your right. You will soon be back at *.

During dry weather in the summer months, for a slightly shorter route back, once you have passed the bungalows at** you will see a road on your left marked as a no through road. Take this road which eventually transforms into a rutted track. You will pass a very large new house and two smaller ones. The last one is called Ty Dderwen. You will shortly reach the lane that you came down from *. Turn right uphill here to get back to *. You could just about do this route on a mountain bike in the summer months.

If you are on foot and want an extra bit of adventure you can go straight across at Rhos farm # onto a track. Once you have passed the farm on your right a few moments later you will get to a field gate on your left. Go through this and stay on the left side of a small field. Almost straightaway you will pass another field gate on your left and then there will be a third field gate straight in front of you which you go through. Walk diagonally across this field to the left hand downhill corner and you will be by the river. Climb over the stile immediately to your left and walk along for hundred metres so and you will come to a footbridge over the River Vyrnwy. You may see otters in the river near here. Return the same way back to Rhos farm.

River Severn embankment walk

You start this walk on the other side of the A483 by going down Trederwen Lane and continuing on until you get to Offa’ dyke path. Turn right along here and then left along the Severn way after about half a mile.Walk on top of the embankment until you get to Llandrinio bridge. Return the same way. It is about 3 miles in each direction. Avoid this walk after lots of rain.
